| A message from the Mayor of Vienna |

Vienna, its importance
Vienna is a federal state as well as the capital of Austria. So many organizations and institutions are based at Vienna: the Federal State, the government, the ministries and governmental offices, the Supreme Court, and many headquarters of international organizations. Vienna is not only a federal state but also a city where international conferences are held and is a center of tourism and culture in Europe.
Vienna is located in the east part of the country and only 16 km away from Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia. The reason why Vienna is regarded as one of the most important cities in Europe is that it is an exceptional center of transportation, or it is located at the intersection of Danube river basin including traffic routes from Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean area. With the easterly enlargement of EU, this Danubian metropolis, a new geographic, cultural and economic center of Europe is now becoming an important hub in Europe. |

Center of Culture
The city with rich history, “The Blue Danube” is a product of unique mixture of gorgeous and historical architectures, museums, galleries and incomparable cultural heritages that are influenced by various cultural epochs of European history. Universities in Vienna and the highest level of music and theater culture represent that the city of Vienna still strongly supports an aspect of spiritual culture in Europe today, and the great architectural culture represents “long-established history” as well as sensational projects by international contemporary architects.
From summer to winter, many international events are held in Hausplatz (City Hall square) in Vienna every year such as “Wiener Festwochen (Art week)”, “Osterklang (Sound of Easter)“, and a film festival “Viennale” and Europe Open-air Film Festival. |

| Economy-Vienna as a center of economy in Austria |
 |
The 60% of foreign investments made in Austria is brought in to Vienna. Foreign investment institutions appreciate the values of Vienna as a special bases for vocational training, direct access to the East European market and “the Information Structure” which enhance the convenience of transportation, communication and research which is available in various ways from Vienna.
The achievements of these strategies are clear from the fact that there are 18,000 researchers and more than 800 research institutions in Vienna. The economy and industry achieve an enormous synergy effect. The finance and insurance organizations have always valued the location of Vienna highly not only because of the geographical advantage of being close to Eastern Europe. So-called “Creative industry” has taken on a tremendous significance nowadays, and in Vienna, it provides its own startup system especially for the first step of the business. |
